Top 5 Podcasts That Will Help Build Your Dream

In a world where there are millions of podcasts talking about anything from business to wellness it can be really overwhelming and difficult, not to mention time consuming, to sift through all of the podcasts and figure out which ones are worth a listen to help you reach your goals.

I decided to make a post highlighting a few of my favorite podcasts. A huge disclosure, I am by no means an expert in business and am no where near my dream just because I listened to a few podcasts. What I am saying is that these podcasts have been guiding voices that have helped me takes steps to making my dreams a reality by giving me the courage to do things messy and helping me navigate aspects of business that I am new to. Most importantly, they have been guiding voices in helping me to be myself unapologetically and step into my own power.

I don't personally know these people, but I feel like I do because of how often I am listening to their business advice, jokes, heartbreaks, and words of encouragement. It is almost as if I have had a friend staying up late or getting up early with me to make sure I succeed at reaching my goals. I am so grateful for their generosity in knowledge and experience to help others, like myself, find their way as they navigate the unknowns of business, often times alone. I hope these podcasts might help you or serve as inspiration if you are looking to venture into your own business whether it be online, a brick and mortar or even as simple as just finding your purpose in life. So without further ado, here they are!

1) Don't Keep Your Day Job with Cathy Heller

I stumbled upon this podcast one day when I was baking. I wasn't feeling my music and so I decided to change it up and listen to a podcast. I can't remember what I typed in to the search box on my Spotify App, but this one was one of the top 5 results that came up. The title sounded interesting so I chose this as the one I would listen to for that day. Well I can easily say that day became that week which then became that month which then became months. I swear to God, for like 3 months straight this was all I would listen to (with some classic rock sprinkled in). I was obsessed because I felt like she was speaking directly to my soul and what was on my heart. At the time I was so burnt out from my job as a Physical Therapist working in a corporate hospital setting. I had lost all purpose in life because I felt lost. I wanted more impact, more meaning in what I was doing for a career not just a "stable job". This is exactly what Cathy's podcast did for me. It helped me find ME and most of all it got me out of a very dark place. Here is the benefits I got from listening to her podcast and joining the community she has on FB:

  • ENERGY. I love how passionate she is about teaching people how to reclaim their joy by looking inward to find the answers. She teaches people to listen to that voice inside them that many of us have kept quiet for numerous reasons. One of my favorite quotes from her is "The opposite of depression isn't happiness, it's purpose" and that is exactly what she intends with every interview and podcast talk. If you listen to her talk about the topic of contribution by showing up with your gifts, I promise you will feel fired up to get started.

  • She provides amazing resources by introducing you to so many entrepreneurs who have done what everyone says is impossible: Doing what they love and making a living. A few are listed below but she also has interviews with: Jamie Kern Lima, Jasmine Star, Candice Nelson and the list goes on. It is amazing and inspiring to hear these stories of success because it shows the grit and work that was being done behind the scenes despite everyone telling them it was crazy.

  • I can't emphasize how important it is to have community. Cathy has one of the most engaged and passionate communities I have ever seen for an online business/setting. I have met people from all over the world who are also going through their own transformations and I cannot tell you how much value I get from my conversations and skype sessions with like minded entrepreneurs who also see the possibilities. Some of them have become good friends who we meet monthly and sometimes weekly.

2) Smart Passive Income with Pat Flynn

I found SPI through Cathy Heller's Podcast. He was a guest for an interview where he talked about how he built multiple streams of passive online income through his blog, Ebook, and so much more. I'll have to be honest, the first few episodes were a bit rough, but it gets so much better I promise! After a few episodes, I will admit that I have binge listened to his episodes (like sometimes even 3-4 in a day) and have no shame admitting this because he is so personable and generous with his knowledge and experience. You will seriously feel like you are talking with a good friend who is cheering you on and trying to give you every tool imaginable to make your business work. Here are the main benefits I have found listening to SPI:

  • Pat is 100% transparent about the in's and out's of his business, how he built it and how he continues to improve it as the tech continues to evolve. He will lay out the pro's and con's of technology such as email list serves, website development, etc. The best part is he is 100% honest about whether or not the tools he is mentioning is an affiliate market and will give you other resources in case you feel a particular tool isn't a right fit for you.

  • He provides a TON of resources that will help with everything form how to be more productive to how to word your copy writing to improve conversion rates

  • BONUS: he is a huge music fan, back to the future fan, and all around awesome dude

3) Online Marketing Made Easy with Amy Porterfield

This is another podcast that I found from Cathy Heller's Don't Keep Your Day Job. As the title implies, Amy specializes in teaching business owners steps to take to improve their online marketing, email list, and development of online courses. Before she created her own brand, she did a lot of the marketing and campaigns for Tony Robbins and Harley Davidson. Here are the main benefits I have found listening to Online Marketing Made Easy:

  • She gives you clear and actionable steps to take every podcast to help work towards improving your brand and business

  • She provides resources that go into the in's and out's of how to use certain tech tools (some access to this might require a purchase of a course, but she also does free webinars which provide a TON of value!)

  • She really focuses on list building, webinars, and online course building/development so it is specialized

  • She reminds us through her own story how imposter syndrome and the feeling of slow progress is normal and valid!

4) The Business Boutique with Christy Wright

Christy is one of the Dave Ramsey personalities and business experts. She specializes in helping women overcome their fears to be able to do what they love and make a living. A good friend recommended giving her podcast a listen and it was one of the first podcasts I had ever listened to. I personally am not a very religious person, so sometimes I don't care for the religious aspects of the podcast, but it has been so useful in the advice she has for business owners that I definitely feel it is worth a listen. Here are some of the benefits of listening to Christy:

  • She focuses on women and how we as women tend to deal with a bit more of fears and feeling like we need to apologize for everything, particularly prices. I love that she helps us girls tackle these fears and know our value!

  • Because she is tied to Dave Ramsey, she has some great financial advice for the business such as how much to set aside for taxes, how to keep orgainzed, etc.

5) Spitballers Podcast (not a business one, but they have kept me sane by providing endless laughs)

My husband, Sean, listens to their fantasy football podcast and one day I heard him listening to these guys playing a game of Would You Rather on their show. I ended up listening with Sean and I love this show! I have never laughed so hard since watching seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm. This is a great show to give you a good laugh with clean humor.. I will admit that I binge listened to all of their episodes and am fully caught up...sorry not sorry because it was worth every second.

Happy Podcasting, have a great week and I will talk to you next Monday :)
